Project Funding

Total project funding for Halifax Central Library: $57.6 million.

Background

Regional Council approved a funding strategy (10mb pdf) to finance Halifax’s portion of the cost to build the Halifax Central Library. Core funding was committed by the federal government through the Building Canada Fund in the amount of $18.3 million, and the government of Nova Scotia in the amount of $13 million. Halifax’s funding contribution brought the total to $57.6 million. Under the funding strategy, Halifax’s portion of the Central Library project was primarily generated through the sale of lands adjacent to the Central Library site—parking lots on Queen Street and Clyde Street.
